Town Planning Game
Town Planning Game

This is another of my interactives for Aston Hall's "Astonish" gallery.

It's a board game, representing an area of land, with a road grid marked out. There's a river in one corner, and part of a walled estate in the opposite corner. There are also various types of model building - a school, a factory, housing, shops, etc. (and a Palladian mansion), which can be placed anywhere on the grid to create a town something like Aston.

We originally attempted to invent a set of rules and a scoring system to create a structured game based around good town planning. We quickly found, though, that children would immediately subvert the rules, stand terraced houses on end to represent flats, and generally invent their own games. We decided this was a good thing, and went with the flow.
